Recycling and the circular economy

Our SmartShell is made from a combination of recycled and recyclable polypropylene (PP) and natural wheat straw fibers.

At the end of its lifespan, the shell can be disposed of with regular household waste.

There, the material decomposes under suitable conditions without leaving harmful residues or producing permanent microplastics.

Since there are currently no comprehensive take-back systems for bioplastics in Europe, we recommend this disposal method.

Is the case compatible with Fairphone's own backplates or modular backplates?

No.

The SmartShell 6 completely covers the back of the Fairphone 6 and cannot be used with Fairphone backplates or other cases.

It offers a stable back, an integrated magnetic ring and reliable all-round protection.

What is the purpose of the integrated magnetic ring?

The magnetic ring allows the use of magnetic accessories. For example, you can use mounts, grips, or the TwinsCarryStand without removing the case. Full functionality is retained.

What is the insertion slot for?

It serves as an extension for the Biowaves HangHub – to securely attach hand straps or carrying straps.

You can find the HangHub, as well as hand-strap wrist straps and necklaces handcrafted in Germany, under Accessories. Or check out our Mix and Match savings bundles.

Will the case still fit if I use a screen protector or camera lens protector?

Yes, our case is designed to be compatible with most common screen and camera protectors. The raised edges provide additional protection without affecting the fit.

Does the casing stretch out over time or does it remain stable?

Our hard cases are not made of soft silicone, but of a stable bio-based material with slight elasticity. This ensures a permanently precise fit – without stretching or wobbling.

Do the cases yellow over time like silicone cases?

No. Our cases are made from high-quality, biodegradable materials that, unlike silicone, neither yellow nor fade.

Can I purchase accessories (e.g., the HangHub) later?

Yes! The HangHub is available as a separate accessory in our shop and can be easily inserted into the SmartShell 5's slot. This allows you to flexibly expand your case – for example, with a wrist strap or carrying chain for even more comfort and security on the go.

What exactly is the casing made of?

The Biowaves case is made from a biodegradable, pollutant-free material mix with recycled components. It contains no plasticizers, BPA, or other questionable additives and is skin-friendly and odorless.

Is the casing truly biodegradable? How does that work?

Yes – the material was developed to decompose completely under industrial or natural conditions. This process does not produce microplastics or environmentally harmful residues.

Under ideal conditions in industrial composting plants, the decomposition process is particularly efficient. Unfortunately, such plants are not yet widespread in Europe.

Where is the casing manufactured?

Our cases are designed in Germany and manufactured in cooperation with certified, fair-trade partners . This ensures that production, quality, and working conditions meet our sustainability standards.
