Recycling and the Circular Economy

Our SmartShell is made from a blend of recycled and recyclable polypropylene (PP) and natural wheat straw fibers.

At the end of its life, the shell can be disposed of with household waste.

The material then decomposes under appropriate conditions, leaving no harmful residues and producing no permanent microplastics.

Since there is currently no comprehensive collection system for bioplastics in Europe, we recommend this disposal method.

Is this case compatible with original Fairphone back covers or with modular back covers?

No.

The SmartShell 6 case fully covers the back of the Fairphone 6 and cannot be used with Fairphone back plates or other cases.

It features a sturdy back, a built-in magnetic ring, and comprehensive, reliable protection.

What is the purpose of the built-in magnetic ring?

The magnetic ring allows you to use magnetic accessories. For example, you can use mounts, handles, or the TwinsCarryStand without removing the case. All features remain intact.

What is the insertion slot for?

It serves as an extension for use with the Biowaves HangHub —to securely attach wrist straps or carrying straps.

You can find the HangHub, as well as handcrafted wrist straps and collars made in Germany, in the Accessories category. Be sure to check out our value-priced bundle deals as well.

Will the case still fit if I use a screen protector or a lens cover?

Yes, our case is designed to be compatible with most standard screen and camera protectors. The raised edges provide extra protection without compromising the fit.

Does the case warp over time, or does it remain stable?

Our hard cases are not made of soft silicone, but of a stable, slightly elastic bio-based material. This ensures a precise, long-lasting fit without warping or looseness.

Do phone cases yellow over time like silicone cases do?

No. Our cases are made from high-quality biodegradable materials that, unlike silicone, do not yellow or fade.

Can I purchase accessories (such as the HangHub) later?

Yes! The HangHub is available separately in our store and easily fits into the designated slot on the SmartShell 5. This allows you to customize your case to suit your needs: for example, you can add a wrist strap or a chain for added comfort and security when you’re on the go.

What exactly is the case made of?

The Biowaves case is made from a blend of biodegradable, non-toxic materials that contain recycled components. It contains no plasticizers, BPA, or other controversial additives; it is gentle on the skin and odorless.

Is the envelope truly biodegradable? How does it work?

Yes, this material is designed to break down completely under industrial or natural conditions. This process produces neither microplastics nor residues that are harmful to the environment.

Under ideal conditions, within industrial composting facilities, the decomposition process is particularly effective. Unfortunately, these facilities are not yet widespread in Europe.

Where is the case manufactured?

Our cases are designed in Germany and manufactured in collaboration with Fair Trade-certified partners. This ensures that production, quality, and working conditions meet our sustainability standards.
